"One of the sad times was when Sir Fletcher Jones died in 1977 because he had built around him a very devoted group of people and he had that indefinable ability to mould us into a team. It really was uncanny, his ability to expose us to a problem, his insistence that we go away and think about, then later reconvene to discuss the solution. It was a perfect example of management by consultation”.
