In mid 2006, the Fletcher Jones Water Tower and parts of the Fletcher Jones Pleasant Hill factory buildings and Fletcher Jones Gardens were state heritage listed. The front page of the Warrnambool Standard at the time quoted various developers saying that the site had potentially just lost millions of dollars as a result. At the time of State Heritage listing, the site was still owned by the Warrnambool City Council. They bought the Pleasant Hill site in 1992 from the struggling Fletcher Jones company and then leased it back to them in an attempt to preserve jobs and save the gardens.
