The FJ water tower, aka the Silver Ball, is loved by locals and visitors to Warrnambool.  Over the years, it’s become an important landmark and you can set your bearings or give directions using the ball.   The post-modernist design is reminiscent of the creatures in the war of the worlds!  No longer a functioning water tower, the Silver Ball has taken on the status of our city’s largest piece of public art! The Silver Ball is a significant and distinctive feature of Warrnambool’s skyline, contributing to a sense of local character and identity.

“Seeing the Silver Ball on the horizon means you’re in Warrnambool –  you’ve made it home.”

There are many artworks inspired by the Silver Ball. There is even a Silver Ball record label!
