Getting Ready for the Big Lift  6/6/67

"The Lava St scene was a hive of activity this morning.  Two dirty big cranes were being erected, their booms looming out of the fog 140 feet in the air.  Ron Clarke of Clarke Mobile Cranes expects to be ready to lift the first leg of the tower some time today.  These cranes are valued at $160,000; each of them weighs 50 tons and can lift 5 tons (that's about 4 Valiant sedans) to a height of 170 feet.

Warning: The closed off area of Lava St is out of bounds to everyone - not only for safety reasons but also to give the team working there a fair go.  They'll have enough to worry about without having to think about scraping squashed pedestrians off the roadway!"
